I'm fascinated by this film! I've watched it five or six times now (I'm watching it as I write this) and after 30mins of the film I've just turned off the directors' (Matt Reeves) commentary because it's infuriating!
My idea of the directors commentary is to discus elements of the film while letting people watch it, so they can see scenes in a different light, but I've only been able to hear maybe three lines of dialogue because of Matt's insentient talking about things that are not correlating to the film. For example, the bridge collapse scene is one of the big special effect moments in the film, a major plot moment involving large crowds and the death of one of the main cast and all Matt is talking about is how the filming had to be done with no overtime because they didn't have the budget. More is mentioned to the camera operator falling while running from the bridge because the director of photography took a big tumble and he was worried about the film not getting completed because of injury!
So pay attention directors: not interested in your 15minute story about casting while major events are taking place in your film.
